Foreign ministers of eight Islamic states call for talks on power transfer in Gaza
Foreign ministers from Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have welcomed Hamas’s willingness to hand over authority in the Gaza Strip to a transitional committee of technocrats and called for immediate negotiations to discuss the details of the plan.
The joint statement, published by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by TASS, says:
"The foreign ministers welcomed Hamas’ announcement of its readiness to transfer governance of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian transitional committee composed of independent technocrats, and emphasized the need to start negotiations immediately to agree on the implementation mechanism and consider all aspects of this proposal," the communiqué reads.
The eight ministers also praised Hamas’ steps regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. They welcomed Trump’s call for Israel to immediately halt airstrikes and begin implementing the agreement on the exchange of Israeli hostages held in the Strip for Palestinian prisoners.
