Former Armenian president raises questions on public readiness for government change

04 April 2024 20:55

Armenia's former president Serzh Sargsyan expressed uncertainty regarding the citizens’ readiness to take decisive action to remove the current government.

In remarks to journalists reported by Sputnik Armenia, Sargsyan acknowledged his efforts over the past six years to prepare the public for tangible steps.

"Once people are ready to mobilize and demand the authorities' resignation, leaders for this cause will emerge. While there may be some despondency presently, it's crucial to overcome it as passivity is detrimental. People must be prepared to take action," he emphasized.

Regarding the current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's potential actions before his possible ouster, Sargsyan hesitated to speculate.

Sargsyan noted Pashinyan's efforts to cling to power each day, but contrasted his own departure from office, emphasizing that he didn't implore people to protest during his tenure but chose to step down to prevent further turmoil in the country.
