Former Armenian president speaks out on country's EU membership

Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said that Yerevan should not apply to join the European Union.

"The third president believes... that Armenia should not apply for EU membership," Gazeta.ru reports citing Sputnik Armenia.

Sargsyan also stated that the Armenia-EU-US summit to be held in Brussels on April 5 will only intensify the confrontation between Russia and the West in the region. He emphasized that "in reality, Armenia should at this meeting ask the US and the EU to actually help restore the country's sovereign territory."
