Former Armenian president supports “Armenia” bloc bid
Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has expressed support for the success of Robert Kocharyan’s “Armenia” bloc in the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az.
Speaking to journalists, Sargsyan said he strongly favours the bloc’s electoral performance. “I want more than many others for the ‘Armenia’ bloc to succeed in the elections. This is beneficial for all of us,” said Sargsyan, who leads the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
He confirmed that the RPA will not participate in the elections, a decision previously announced at the party’s congress. Instead, the party has urged its supporters to back opposition forces.
According to Sargsyan, the decision to abstain is aimed at avoiding fragmentation within the opposition camp and increasing its overall chances in the vote.
