Media: Former chief justice keen to lead Nepal’s interim government
Former Chief Justice of Nepal Sushila Karki has conveyed her readiness to lead the interim government, following a comprehensive virtual meeting of the Gen-Z group that lasted over five hours.
During the extensive Zoom session, members of the Gen-Z collective reached a consensus to nominate Karki for the leadership of the interim administration and to initiate discussions with Army Chief Ashok Sigdel. While the meeting did not include direct dialogue with Karki, a subsequent phone conversation confirmed her willingness to assume the role, Khabarhub reports.
“Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has sent a message confirming her willingness to lead the interim government,” a Gen-Z member involved in the meeting stated. “With her consent, we can now move forward to engage with the Army Chief.”
The group also agreed on excluding youth affiliated with political parties from participating in these discussions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a neutral and independent stance during the transitional phase.
Participants acknowledged that other figures, such as Balen Sah and Sagar Dhakal, could be considered as alternative candidates; however, Karki remains the most suitable choice to steer the country through this critical period.
