Former Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze has been detained by the country's State Security Service on serious criminal charges, including abuse of power, embezzlement, corruption, and money laundering.
Burchuladze is alleged to have misused his official position for personal gain during his tenure as head of the Ministry of Defence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
If found guilty, the former minister could face a prison sentence ranging from 9 to 12 years under Georgian law.
Burchuladze served as Minister of Defence from 2021 to 2024 and was a prominent figure within the ruling Georgian Dream party.
