Romeo Mikautadze, Georgia’s former Deputy Minister of Economy, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for abuse of office and money laundering, authorities announced.

In addition to the prison term, Mikautadze has been banned from holding public office for two years, and his assets have been confiscated. These include properties in Spain and the Georgian city of Mtskheta, three vehicles, and a 15% stake in the "Nakhiduri HPP" energy project, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

According to investigators, between 2017 and 2024, Mikautadze laundered illegal proceeds totaling 8.5 million Georgian lari (approximately $3.1 million).
