Former German Chancellor misses Macron, feels no homesick for politics
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed that while she misses socializing with her political colleagues, including French President Emmanuel Macron, she does not feel nostalgic for her political career.
In an interview with the French newspaper, Merkel shared her thoughts on life after leaving office, Caliber.Az reports.
"I don't miss political activity. I was chancellor for 16 years and that is more than enough," she said. "But what I really miss is meeting certain personalities, including President Macron."
For me, power meant being able to build democratic majorities to carry out my political projects. That way I could make decisions and change things. So I tried to find solutions. I couldn't stay disappointed for long, but I had to think constructively and find compromises.
On relations with Donald Trump, the former Chancellor said that his approach was often polemical. “I had to work very hard to defend Germany's interests. Working with him was often stressful.”
