Former Iranian official claims major blows to US espionage networks
02 May 2026 15:08
Mostafa Pourmohammadi, a former deputy at Iran’s Intelligence Ministry who also served as interior and justice minister, said Tehran has dealt major blows to alleged US espionage networks, claiming its efforts surpassed those of other global powers.
Pourmohammadi stated that Iran’s most significant counterintelligence actions took place in the late 1980s and again in recent years, during which authorities identified a large number of suspected agents.
“Neither Russia nor China nor any other country has identified this volume of spies,” he said.
He added that some of the cases involved cooperation with foreign governments, including the sharing of intelligence with China and Russia.
