Former Petrozavodsk lawmaker accused of murder in rocket attack

26 November 2025 21:01

Former Petrozavodsk City Council MP Timur Zornyakov has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder of two individuals in a contract killing case.

Zornyakov faces multiple charges under the Russian Criminal Code, including Article 105 (“Murder”) and Article 30/105 (“Attempted Murder”), Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

According to sources, in September 2002, Zornyakov, then serving in a law enforcement agency, fired a rocket-propelled grenade at an armored vehicle owned by businessman Leonid Beluga. The attack resulted in the death of Beluga’s driver, while the businessman himself escaped unharmed. Zornyakov reportedly received $20,000 for carrying out the attack.
