09 January 2024 15:36

Politician and former owner of the Russian YUKOS energy company Mikhail Khodorkovsky has been put on a wanted list in Russia because of a new criminal case.

The information about this appeared in the file cabinet of the Interior Ministry, Gazeta.ru writes.

The card says that he was "re-declared" wanted because of a new criminal case. Before that, he was wanted for the slaughter of Nefteyugansk mayor Vladimir Petukhov, the case was opened in 2015.

In December, the Meshchansky Court of Moscow fined Khodorkovsky for not labelling him a foreign agent in his social media posts. The former businessman will have to pay a fine of 50,000 roubles ($557).

Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former owner of the Yukos oil company, was arrested in October 2003. In 2005, he was sentenced to prison on charges of fraud and tax evasion. In 2010, the businessman was sentenced to another term on new circumstances. Khodorkovsky's sentence was due to expire in August 2014.

On December 20, 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree pardoning Khodorkovsky. As Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated, the president did so "based on purely human and humanitarian considerations".
