France prepares for airport chaos as air traffic controllers call strike
France is bracing itself for chaos to erupt at several airports in the North as air traffic controllers go prepare for a strike.
As reported by Euronews, up to half of all flights at several airports will be canceled as a preventative measure from the evening of December 17 until early December 19.
Airports of Paris-Orly, Lyon, Lille, Brest, Rouen, Poitiers and Saint-Yan airports could be impacted, while the Parisian Charles de Gaulle is not expected to be affected by the action.
The strike could also cause delays for flights that use French airspace.
New rules requiring workers to inform their managers 48 hours prior to joining a strike are the main cause of this walkout with air traffic controls saying the rule infringes on their right to strike.
Employees at the Paris-Orly airport additionally will strike as a result of national carrier Air France's announcement on moving to Charles de Gaulle as their domestic hub, causing many to fear losing their jobs.
