France tears Armenia away from Russia but will not protect it Armenian professor says

Arthur Khachikian, a PhD in International Relations from Stanford University, in an interview with Armenian media has said that France pulls Armenia away from Russia.

"It is clear that the statement about freezing relations with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was made in favor of these strong countries that head this group, as these actions have nothing to do with Armenia's vital national interests. And if there are any problems with the CSTO, these problems should be addressed with the CSTO in Moscow without these organised theatrical performances. Otherwise, it is just a PR. This is a political anti-Russian step so that the Western countries see the realisation of their plan, that their plans are being implemented," the professor said, Caliber.Az reports.

“It will not do us any good, having already two fairly strong opponents, we have also started to antagonize Russia, and at the same time not cooperating with Iran in any way. So we had two enemies, now we have three enemies, and our friends are sending us sniper rifles from three thousand kilometers away, and I don't know how it will help us. If to compare it to the help they are giving to Ukraine or to the forces of the military bases that France has in Estonia, Romania and other countries, and we are talking about thousands of soldiers, air defense system, Caesar howitzers, which have played a big role in Ukraine, these are real weapons, and they are being supplied to Romania, Ukraine and other countries. However, we are not yet provided with real weapons. What are we hoping for? This is a game, as always. Knowing that Armenians are a very naive people, an emotional people, they make a political move and make promises. Because their only interest is to tear us away from Russia and drive Russia out of here. You don't need to give us large-scale military assistance, you just need to give us hope. Do a few symbolic things.

Apart from that, if you look at the text of the agreement, I read it yesterday, it says: we will help Armenia if it defends itself. It doesn't say that we will protect Armenia. If you look at the agreements that France has with NATO countries, it is quite different. It is written there: an attack on one member country is an attack on all, and we are obliged to defend NATO countries by all means, using military force, and we are told that they will just help," Khachikian noted.
