French parliament urges sanctions on Georgian ruling party over "foreign agents" law
12 May 2026 14:43
The French parliament has called for sanctions against members of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party over its controversial “foreign agents” legislation, which critics say undermines democratic freedoms.
In a resolution, 68 deputies voted in favour and 28 against, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Lawmakers urged the French government, alongside European Union partners, to consider banning entry into the EU for Georgian officials involved in the adoption of the law, as well as freezing their assets.
The resolution also calls for a review of financial assistance to Georgia and the suspension of any budgetary support to the authorities until the legislation is repealed.
