EU imports of Russian fruits, vegetables plummet in 2024
In 2024, Russian food exports, specifically of fruits, nuts, and vegetables to the European Union dropped threefold compared to the previous year.
According to data published by the union's official statistical database Eurostat, the total value of imports from January to November 2024 amounted to €121.1 million, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media outlets. This is 2.8 times lower than during the same period in 2023.
Vegetables accounted for the largest share of the decrease, with purchases totaling €84 million. Meanwhile, the combined value of nuts and fruits imported from Russia during the same timeframe stood at €17.1 million.
High demand was observed for nuts and processed fruits. Among vegetables exported from Russia, legumes dominated the European market, while asparagus, eggplants, and celery from Russia also gained popularity in 2024.
