Gallup: Desire to move to United States falls to record low
The number of people worldwide who want to immigrate to the United States has dropped to its lowest level on record, according to a new survey by the US-based polling organisation Gallup.
The study, conducted among citizens of 140 countries and covering around 144,000 respondents, found that only 15% expressed a desire to move to the United States. This marks a significant decline compared to previous years, including 24% between 2007 and 2009 and 18% in 2017.
Despite the overall decline, the US remains the most desired destination for potential migrants in regions such as Latin America, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
At the same time, the survey highlights a growing trend of Americans considering emigration. Around 40% of women under the age of 45 in the United States said they are thinking about leaving the country. This compares to just 10% in 2014 within the same demographic group.
