Gazprom suspends Nord Stream operations for three days from August 31

Gas transportation via the Nord Stream gas pipeline is planned to be suspended for three days - from August 31 to September 3.

Gazprom PJSC published the dates of repairs - from 04:00 on August 31 to 04:00 on September 3 - in an official statement published in accordance with the EU regulation on the integrity and transparency of the wholesale energy market (REMIT) (the time indicated is Moscow), Interfax reports.

The reason for the step is "preventive work at GPU [gas compressor unit] N24 at the Portovaya compressor station," the report says.

As Gazprom previously reported, the shutdown is necessary to carry out maintenance and scheduled preventive work on the only working Trent 60 gas pumping unit.

"Upon completion of the work and the absence of technical malfunctions of the unit, gas transport will be restored to the level of 33 million cubic metres per day," Gazprom informed earlier.

The complex routine maintenance work, according to the current maintenance contract, must be carried out jointly with Siemens specialists.

"In accordance with the technical documentation of Siemens, every 1,000 hours it is necessary to carry out maintenance of the unit, which includes: inspection of the housing for cracks, potholes, deformations, burn spots, cleaning of the housing; inspection of oil supply systems, air, the exhaust of combustion gases for leaks, broaching of connections and elimination of the causes of leaks; checking the operability of safety valves and setting up the airflow control system," Gazprom said in a statement.
