Georgia adopts new Defence Code

The Georgian Parliament has voted for the bill on the new Defence Code in the third and final reading, which envisages the changes in the procedure for military service conscription.

“One of the important and fundamental innovations of the Defence Code is the creation of a new approach in connection with compulsory military service, which, together with other innovations, envisages the improvement of the social protection of a person called up for national military service and popularisation of the service. The social guarantees of a person called up for national military service with a professional soldier are planned to be equalised,” TASS reports citing the parliament.

According to the voting results, the bill was supported by 80 MPs. The parliament also adopted a package consisting of 46 bills related to the new Defence Code in the third reading.
