Georgia approves draft law to notify conscripts via SMS and email
Georgia’s parliamentary defence committee has approved, in the first reading, amendments to the “Defence Code” introducing new methods of notifying conscripts, including via SMS and email.
The draft law, prepared by the Ministry of Defence, regulates procedures for military registration and conscription, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
In addition to traditional delivery of summons, notifications may now be sent through electronic communication channels.
If no response is received within two working days, the notice will be published on an official website and considered delivered after seven days. The conscript must then report within 10 days.
The amendments also clarify service rules. In particular, contract soldiers who terminate their contracts without eligibility for deferment or exemption will be automatically transferred to eight months of mandatory service.
Payment of fines for contract violations will be deferred during service and subsequently cancelled.
