Georgia bans flights over resort town to protect observatory skies
16 April 2026 17:54
Georgian authorities have introduced a no-fly zone over the resort town of Abastumani, where an astrophysical observatory is located.
The restricted airspace covers a section previously used by several international flight routes operating between Europe and Asia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
According to Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, the decision was taken following a request from scientists at the observatory, who require clear skies and minimal artificial interference to carry out their research.
