Georgia completes key section of East–West international highway

17 December 2025 19:31

In western Georgia, authorities have completed construction on a new section of the East–West international highway, a key artery in the European transit network, the country’s Department of Roads announced.

The East–West Highway, also known as the European Transit Corridor E-60, is Europe’s second-largest transit corridor, stretching from Brest, France, to Irkeshtam, Kyrgyzstan. In Georgia, the corridor extends 392 kilometres, beginning at the border with Azerbaijan and ending on the Black Sea coast near the port of Poti, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

The newly completed section is located in the Guria region, covering the Lanchkhuti–Lesa segment of the Samtredia–Grigoleti route. At the official opening, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the project’s multifaceted significance.

“The project is important from various perspectives. Among other things, it will relieve traffic in the city of Lanchkhuti and nearby villages. This means less noise, more comfort and safety for local residents, and shorter travel times and greater comfort for passengers,” Kobakhidze said.

The 8-kilometre stretch includes three parallel bridges and two transport interchanges. The larger 52-kilometre Samtredia–Grigoleti highway is divided into four sections, two of which have already been completed, while the remaining two are nearing completion.
