Georgia: Court bans phone calls and visits for presidential office storming suspects

13 October 2025 09:07

The Georgian Ministry of Justice has announced that those accused of organising the storming of the Presidential Administration building — Paata Burchuladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze, and Lasha Beridze — have been banned from making phone calls, receiving visits, and corresponding until December 9.

According to the lawyers of the accused, their clients were prohibited from phone calls, meetings, and correspondence on Sunday, October 12, Caliber.Az reports via Sputnik Georgia.

On the evening of October 4, 2025, during the municipal elections, participants in a protest rally attempted to break into the residence of the President of Georgia, thereby beginning what they called the “transfer of power to the people.” Law enforcement officers used special means and water cannons against the protesters. As a result of the clashes, up to 25 police officers were injured, 15 of whom required hospitalisation.

The police detained more than 40 participants of the rally, including five organisers — Paata Burchuladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze, and Lasha Beridze.

The investigation is being conducted under articles on “Damage or destruction of property,” “Seizure or blocking of strategic facilities,” “Organisation of group violence, leadership or participation in it,” and “Calls for the violent change of the constitutional order or overthrow of the state power of Georgia.”
