Georgia detains 50 foreign nationals over illegal stay VIDEO

Georgian Interior Ministry Migration Department officers have detained 50 foreign nationals during inspections across the country for violating the rules governing their stay in Georgia, the ministry said in a Facebook post.

The detainees include citizens of Nigeria, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, China, Thailand, Russia, India, Iraq, Turkmenistan and Egypt.

Migration Department officers conducted inspections at various facilities and residential addresses, where they identified foreign nationals staying in the country without legal grounds.

According to the Interior Ministry, the detainees violated the requirements of Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

All 50 individuals have been placed in the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Procedures prescribed by Georgian law are underway for their subsequent forced removal from the country.
