Georgia detains ISIS members of Azerbaijani ethnicity
The persons detained during the special operation of Georgia’s State Security Service against the ISIS terrorist group are ethnic Azerbaijanis.
Ioseb Natroshvili, the lawyer of the detainees, made the statement in a conversation with journalists, according to APA.
He noted that the case in which the detainees are accused is classified.
“I defend the rights of the four detainees. I have not yet met with them, so I do not know their position on this issue. I learned from the investigator that they would be charged today. A total of seven people were arrested. Six of them were detained yesterday, one in April. The detainee in April is a Turkish citizen, he was placed in the pre-trial detention centre of the Migration Department of the Interior Ministry. The 6 people detained yesterday are Georgian citizens who are ethnic Azerbaijanis,” the lawyer said.
The State Security Service of Georgia reported that based on the evidence seized during this operation, terrorist activities carried out on the territory of foreign countries were identified, and taking into account the threat, the information received was immediately transferred to the partner countries.
