Georgia detains man over attempt to seize multi-million-dollar property

Georgia’s Anti-Corruption Agency has detained a man accused of attempting to take possession of another person’s property in Tskneti, an upscale suburb of Tbilisi, using forged documents.

The suspect allegedly targeted a plot of land measuring more than 18,000 square metres and valued at several million dollars, Georgian media reports. 

Investigators say he planned to acquire the property for $1.2 million, significantly below its market value. To complete the transaction, he allegedly submitted a forged power of attorney issued abroad to the Georgian Ministry of Justice’s registry.

The suspect was detained while submitting the documents, authorities said.

An investigation has been launched on charges of large-scale fraud and the use of forged documents. If convicted, the suspect faces between six and nine years in prison.
