Georgia detains suspected ISIS recruiter wanted by FBI in Tbilisi VIDEO
A US-Uzbek citizen wanted by US law enforcement on charges of financing a terrorist organisation has been detained in Tbilisi, according to a publication by Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Facebook.
The man was detained by officers from the Georgian Interior Ministry’s Central Criminal Police Department and the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office in cooperation with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He was arrested at Tbilisi International Airport immediately after arriving in Georgia, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the US authorities, the man had established a group in the United States to provide financial and logistical support to terrorist organisations in Syria, including ISIS. He was also involved in recruiting individuals and facilitating their travel to Syria to participate in combat operations.
Extradition proceedings have been launched to transfer the detainee to US law enforcement authorities.
