Georgia detains Ukrainian, Iranian citizens over drug offences
Georgian police have detained citizens of Ukraine and Iran on charges related to illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, the Georgian Foreign Ministry announced.
A 42-year-old Ukrainian national was arrested in the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti region for illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitation of drug distribution, Caliber.Az via Georgian media.
Authorities found methadone in granules and powder, packaged into 50 separate units ready for sale.
A 22-year-old Iranian citizen was detained at Tbilisi International Airport while attempting to bring five blister packs of pregabalin into Georgia without a prescription.
If convicted, the Iranian national faces up to 13 years in prison, while the Ukrainian national could face up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
