Georgia guarantees safety of jailed ex-PM Garibashvili

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has assured that the state is guaranteeing the safety of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who is currently in custody.

Kobakhidze’s remarks came a day after Garibashvili issued a statement accusing the authorities of attempting to “destroy” him and his family, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

“I guarantee that his safety is ensured. Of course, both his safety and the safety of his family are ensured from beginning to end. This is, in general, the responsibility of the state. The state has an obligation to protect the safety of its citizens,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister emphasized that ensuring the security of citizens, including those in state custody, is a responsibility of the government.
