Georgia hosts landmark visit by Uzbekistan’s leader
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze hosted an official dinner in Tbilisi in honour of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is on a two-day state visit to Georgia with an accompanying delegation.
According to the Georgian government’s press service, cited by local media, Kobakhidze underscored the significance of the visit — the first by a president of Uzbekistan to Georgia at the highest state level — as a milestone for strengthening bilateral relations.
As part of the ceremonial programme, the visiting delegation rode the Tbilisi funicular and viewed panoramic scenes of the capital. The city’s TV tower was illuminated in the colours of Uzbekistan’s national flag to mark the occasion.
Formal talks between the two leaders are scheduled for later in the day, beginning with a one-on-one meeting followed by expanded-format discussions involving delegations.
The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of a number of memoranda of cooperation between relevant government bodies, covering multiple areas of bilateral engagement.
