Georgia increases export of passenger cars to Russia by over threefold in 2023
Georgia has increased the export of passenger cars to Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
In particular, Russia received 978 cars worth $13.5 million in January-February compared to 209 cars in 2022, Kommersant newspaper reports citing the Georgian customs statistics.
Georgia does not produce cars, but actively imports them.
So, 8,200 cars worth $97 million were imported from the US while 1,300 cars ($29.2 million) - from Germany in January-February 2023.
According to the Autostat agency, during the reporting period, almost 9,800 1-and 2-year-old cars received through parallel imports were sold in Russia, but these cars were mainly from China.
In general, according to the Georgian national statistics office, the re-export of passenger cars reached a ten-year high of 13,500 cars worth $236.8 million in January and February.
Georgia re-exported 9,700 cars worth $59.8 million in 2019.
