Georgia introduces fast but expensive Tbilisi–Batumi air route
Georgia’s national carrier Georgian Airways will launch regular flights between Tbilisi and Batumi starting June 25.
The new service will operate throughout the summer navigation season, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Flights will run four times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays — using Boeing 737 aircraft. The flight time will be approximately 45 minutes.
The schedule has been designed for weekend travelers heading to the Black Sea coast.
Departure from Tbilisi: 09:00
Departure from Batumi: 19:30
However, the convenience and time savings come at a relatively high cost. One-way ticket prices range from 343 to 419 Georgian lari (approximately $131–$158).
For comparison, alternative and significantly cheaper transport options are available between the capital and Batumi. A train ticket costs 36 lari in economy class and 76 lari in business class, with a journey time of around five hours. Bus travel costs about 45 lari ($17) and takes approximately 6–7 hours.
