Georgia plans government restructuring with new ministerial role

30 July 2026 09:33

Georgia will introduce a new position of state minister for regional policy as part of a restructuring of its government, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on July 29.

Speaking at a briefing at the government administration, Kobakhidze said Mamuka Mdinaradze would be appointed to the role while continuing to serve as deputy prime minister, according to the Georgian bureau of Azerbaijani news agency Report.

He described strengthening regional policy as one of Tbilisi’s main priorities.

Kobakhidze added that Mdinaradze would act as minister of regional development until the first week of September. During that period, the position of state minister for law enforcement affairs will be abolished in accordance with the law.

Following the establishment of the new post in September, the Ministry of Regional Development will be dissolved, and its acting head, Kakha Guledani, will be appointed first deputy minister of infrastructure.
