Georgia plans to draft 5,800 individuals under 2026 conscription plan
Georgia plans to draft 5,800 individuals aged 18 to 27 into its defence forces in 2026, according to a decree by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The conscription will take place in several stages from January 1 to December 10, 2026. Starting March 1, draftees will join combat units for a six-month service term, Caliber.Az reports per multiple Georgian sources.
Conscription into combat support and logistics units will occur in four stages—March 1, June 1, October 1, and December 1—with an eight-month service period.
Drafts for junior command positions, permanent roles, or specialised posts will begin on October 1 and last 11 months.
Conscripts are selected randomly via an electronic system from the nationwide list of Georgian men aged 18 to 27. Women may serve voluntarily.
Individuals exempted on religious or conscientious grounds are offered alternative service.
