Georgia reaffirms commitment to South Caucasus stability in talks with Türkiye
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili has reiterated Georgia’s readiness to contribute to peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
She made the statement during her official visit to Türkiye, where she met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on February 26, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnerships, with economic cooperation being a key topic. According to a press release from the Georgian Foreign Ministry, both sides acknowledged Türkiye as Georgia’s leading trading partner and emphasized the need to maximize economic potential. "The importance of deepening trade engagement was underlined," the statement noted.
Regional cooperation in transport and energy was another focal point, particularly within the framework of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye trilateral strategic partnership. Bochorishvili highlighted the significance of this platform, calling it "of special importance." The ministers also confirmed that the next trilateral foreign ministers meeting would take place in Türkiye.
In the context of regional connectivity, both sides stressed the importance of key projects linked to the Middle Corridor initiative, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad, and the Southern Gas Corridor. They also emphasized the need to fully utilize the Black Sea’s potential to enhance connectivity and trade.
Security concerns in the region were also addressed, with both ministers underscoring the necessity of joint efforts to tackle existing challenges. "In this context, the role of Türkiye as an important regional player was noted," the press release stated. Bochorishvili reaffirmed Georgia’s dedication to these efforts, saying, "Georgia is ready to contribute to the process of promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus."
The discussion also touched upon broader political and economic cooperation between Georgia and Türkiye, highlighting the importance of the High-Level Strategic Partnership Council as a key mechanism for advancing relations. Both sides agreed on the need for continued high-level exchanges to maintain momentum in diplomatic and economic ties.
