Iran adviser Velayati urges withdrawal of foreign troops from Middle East

08 August 2026 14:35

A senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leadership has called for the withdrawal of all foreign military forces from the Middle East, describing their presence as a primary source of regional instability.

Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said foreign military contingents should leave the region, arguing that recent developments have underscored this necessity.

According to Velayati, what he described as the “defeat” of the United States and Israel has reinforced calls for a full withdrawal of external forces.

“Recent events have been the result of the resilience of the armed forces, the courage of the Iranian people, and the bravery of the ‘Axis of Resistance’, which led to the defeat of America and Israel. This has only strengthened the conviction that foreign forces, which are the main factor of instability, must leave the region,” he wrote on social media.

Velayati added that countries in the Middle East are capable of ensuring their own security through expanded bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the region.
