Some Azerbaijani trucks cleared after delays at Georgian border

08 August 2026 14:08

Some Azerbaijani freight trucks that had been delayed for extended periods at border checkpoints in Georgia have now been cleared to proceed and are returning to Azerbaijan, according to local media reports.

Other vehicles remain at the crossings awaiting completion of customs procedures, though authorities expect the issue to be resolved in the near term.

The delays had prompted complaints from Azerbaijani truck drivers, who said they were forced to wait for several days — and in some cases weeks — while transiting through Georgia. Drivers also reported a lack of timely official explanations for the hold-ups.

Amid the disruption, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia on August 5.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry said the request was promptly forwarded to relevant state agencies, which are taking measures предусмотренные законодательством.

Separately, the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia said an investigation into the situation is underway, while maintaining that cargo traffic across all border checkpoints is continuing without obstruction.

Following the embassy’s appeal, the matter has been reviewed in coordination with relevant Georgian authorities.
