Georgia reopens key international routes for heavy vehicles
01 January 2026 14:34
Georgia has reopened international roads leading to its borders with Armenia and Türkiye for trailer and semi-trailer vehicles following clearance operations.
According to Georgian Ministry of Infrastructure, the routes — Akhaltsikhe to Ninotsminda, which leads to the Armenian border, and Akhalkalaki to Kartsakhi, heading towards Türkiye — are now accessible to heavy vehicles after being temporarily closed.
“The movement of trailer and semi-trailer vehicles on the international roads Akhalkalaki–Kartsakhi and Akhaltsikhe–Ninotsminda has been restored,” the statement said.
Both routes were closed on Wednesday, December 31, due to heavy snowfall and low temperatures.
