Georgia's government vows harsh measures against xenophobia
The Georgian government will not allow incitement of xenophobia against Russians in case of an increase in the influx of visitors from Russia.
The statement came on May 10 from Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia", IMEDI TV informs.
“Now the tourist season is approaching and they [the opposition] will again try to sow panic in society that many ethnic Russians are coming, this can cause the fall of the country. We will not allow, of course, the incitement of xenophobic campaigns in our country. There is no place for xenophobia in Georgia. Georgia is proud of many things, including our tolerance, and there is no place for ethnic intolerance and rejection of tolerance in Georgia, no matter how hard the followers of liberal fascism try to achieve,” Kobakhidze said.
He added that this year, as in the past, the Georgian authorities will ensure the country's complete security despite various fears.
