Georgia’s ruling party commends Azerbaijan for support amid political struggles

10 April 2025 17:40

The ruling Georgian Dream party has expressed deep gratitude to Azerbaijan for its unwavering support of Georgia during challenging times, following a recent statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, Member of the Parliament from the ruling party, emphasized that Aliyev's remarks reaffirmed that the international community recognizes the realities of Georgia's internal political situation, Caliber.Az reports citing Georgian media.

"We should first and foremost thank Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people for supporting Georgia, especially in the most difficult moments," Samkharadze stated.

President Aliyev’s comments came during the "Facing the New World Order" forum held in Baku, where he expressed strong support for Georgia and criticized the European Commission's approach to the country's internal processes. He described their stance as "completely unacceptable," comparing it to the behavior of colonial powers. Aliyev stressed that Georgia’s domestic affairs should be resolved by its people, not by bureaucrats from Brussels.

Samkharadze echoed this sentiment, asserting that Aliyev’s statement further reinforced the idea that the world, including Azerbaijan, sees Georgia’s internal issues with a sense of fairness and understanding. "Once again, Mr. Aliyev’s statement proves that the world adequately perceives the processes taking place in Georgia," he added.

The Georgian MP also highlighted that the European Union’s treatment of Georgia has been unfair throughout history, with the EU showing a dismissive attitude toward the country's internal affairs. "As Mr. Aliyev has said, not only him but many others around the world recognize that the EU has an unjust approach to Georgia," Samkharadze noted.
