Georgia seeks OSCE chairmanship in 2027, top diplomat says

Georgia is interested in taking over the chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2027, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said.

Botchorishvili made the remarks at a reception for representatives of OSCE participating states held during the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Georgian foreign minister emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty of all OSCE participating states and highlighted dialogue, the peaceful settlement of conflicts, adherence to international norms and fulfilment of international commitments as key principles.

“We understand that finding ways to peacefully resolve conflicts requires determination, patience and political courage,” Botchorishvili said.

Georgia's statement comes as OSCE participating states consider the organization's future leadership and priorities for 2027.
