Georgia sends delegation to Jerusalem to collect Holy Fire for Easter rituals
A small delegation from Georgia will travel to Jerusalem to collect the Holy Fire due to current restrictions.
The delegation is expected to bring the Holy Fire from Jerusalem to Tbilisi, where it will be taken to the Sioni Cathedral. The Easter liturgy there will be led by the locum tenens of the patriarchal throne, Metropolitan Shio, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
According to church tradition, Orthodox Christians on Holy Saturday commemorate the burial of Christ. Morning services marking the removal of the Shroud and the funeral service for the Saviour were held in churches, with clergy changing from black vestments to festive robes symbolising the approach of Easter.
The Easter liturgy at Sioni Cathedral is scheduled to begin at 11:00 p.m. local time, followed by a midnight procession and Matins service.
