Georgia signals readiness to reset strategic ties with US, awaits reciprocal action

22 July 2025 18:04

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reiterated his government's readiness to comprehensively reset strategic relations with the United States, calling on Washington to respond with concrete and constructive steps.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze emphasized that Georgia remains fully committed to revitalizing its strategic partnership with the US, provided that the process is based on what he termed a “healthy and fair approach,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

"We have made an unambiguous and resolute statement: we are ready for a full reset," Kobakhidze declared. "If there is a sincere and balanced approach, there is nothing that can stand in the way of restoring our relationship."

The Georgian leader indicated that Tbilisi is prepared to engage in negotiations aimed at crafting a comprehensive bilateral agreement, including a clearly defined roadmap outlining mutually beneficial objectives. He said this roadmap would serve as a framework for renewed cooperation and strategic alignment between the two nations.

“We are open to starting from a clean slate,” the prime minister said. “Our readiness is absolute. The ball is now in Washington’s court.”

Kobakhidze also referenced longstanding calls from Georgian officials to recalibrate the relationship in the aftermath of the Trump administration, underscoring a perceived need for a refreshed diplomatic foundation that better reflects current geopolitical realities and shared interests.

“This is the clearest and strongest signal we could possibly send,” he concluded. “We are now in a mode of anticipation, hopeful that the United States will take corresponding steps in return.”
