Georgia summons UK ambassador over TV sanctions
The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward, was summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 26 following London’s decision to impose sanctions on Georgian television channels Imedi TV and PosTV.
The development was confirmed by Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili, in an interview with Rustavi 2.
“We have had communication with the British side. Tomorrow I expect the British ambassador to come to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Of course, we will demand clarification as to what underlies such decisions,” the minister said.
According to her, the imposition of restrictions against media outlets requires serious grounds, and she described the move as cynical.
It was reported earlier that the UK authorities had added Imedi and PosTV to their sanctions list.
