Georgia targets 2029 completion for first phase of Anaklia port, PM says

25 May 2026 19:16

Georgia expects to complete the first phase of the Anaklia deep-sea port project by 2029, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, expressing confidence in the progress of negotiations surrounding the strategically important infrastructure initiative.

Kobakhidze stated that talks with the Chinese-Singaporean consortium involved in the project are continuing, with a final decision on the model of cooperation expected within the next few months and no later than the end of the year, Vestnik Kavkaza reports.

The prime minister noted that the parties had temporarily paused negotiations to revise certain terms of the contract, but said discussions have now resumed at the necessary pace.

“The terms of the agreement and the financial burden on the state have been significantly reduced. Completing the first phase in 2029 is absolutely realistic,” Kobakhidze stressed.

The Anaklia deep-sea port project is regarded as one of Georgia’s key strategic infrastructure developments, aimed at strengthening the country’s role as a regional transit and logistics hub.
