Georgia to host US State Department delegation in May, FM says

The US State Department representatives are expected to visit Georgia in May, signalling Georgia’s return to the US agenda, Georgian officials said.

Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said there will be meetings not only with her, but also with various representatives of the government, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

She described recent contacts and visits as positive and productive.

The partnership between Georgia and the West (the European Union and the United States) is reportedly surviving its worst times in 30 years.

Experts say the challenges arose over time and intensified after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the Georgian government has been increasingly accused by the Western partners of growing more politically aligned with Russia and China, and more distant from its traditional Western partners.

This narrative has now become dominant in the relations between the West and Georgia, further undermining remnants of partnership.
