Georgia triples Russian wheat imports in March as value surges 3.2 times

28 April 2026 21:08

Georgia significantly increased its imports of Russian wheat in March, with the value of shipments rising more than threefold year on year, according to data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Russian exporters supplied wheat worth $8.1 million to the Georgian market in March 2026, up from $2.5 million in the same month of 2025 — an increase of 3.2 times, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

Overall, Georgia imported wheat from only three countries during the month. Alongside Russia, supplies also came from the United Arab Emirates ($748,900) and Kazakhstan ($289,800).

Georgia’s annual wheat consumption is estimated at 700,000–800,000 tonnes.

In recent years, it has sourced wheat from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the United States and Russia, with Russian supplies typically accounting for over 95% of imports due to competitive pricing.
