Georgia warns of rising river levels, landslides and mudflows
25 August 2026 17:49
Georgian forecasters have warned of worsening weather conditions across parts of the country from the second half of August 25 through the end of August 26.
Intense rainfall is expected in the regions of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, accompanied by possible thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Georgian Environmental Protection Agency warned that the heavy precipitation could significantly raise water levels in rivers and trigger landslides and mudflows in hilly and mountainous areas.
“The expected precipitation may cause a significant rise in water levels in rivers, as well as the activation of landslides and mudflows in hilly and mountainous areas (medium hazard level),” the agency said.
