Georgia welcomes non-invitation to Trump-led "Board of Peace", vice speaker says

22 January 2026 10:38

Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker Gia Volsky has said it is a positive outcome that Georgia was not invited to the so-called “Board of Peace,” arguing that the format is intended primarily for countries directly affected by war.

Speaking to Georgian media, as cited by Caliber.Az, Volsky noted that participation in the body has been offered to states facing acute wartime challenges. “The countries invited to the ‘Board of Peace’ are those where severe processes linked to war are underway, whether in the Middle East or in the centre of Europe. These countries were selected based on the specific issues that need to be discussed. In this context, Georgia, with its limited resources, is taking the right position,” he said.

Volsky added that Georgia’s priority is to see peace efforts advance in general, stressing that the country is comfortable with the peace process moving forward regardless of the methods used or the format in which it is pursued.

The "Board of Peace" is an initiative launched by US President Donald Trump. It was initially presented as a mechanism to address the conflict in the Middle East but has since seen its scope expanded. Trump has invited 56 countries to participate as part of this broader mandate.

The Board of Peace is scheduled to be officially launched on January 22 and is intended to oversee reconstruction efforts in Gaza. The initiative is based on the Comprehensive Plan for Ending the Gaza Conflict, unveiled in September 2025, which has received international recognition, including endorsement through United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, adopted on November 17, 2025.
