Georgian court sentences two men to 11 years for joining ISIS

The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced two men to 11 years in prison each for joining a foreign terrorist organisation and assisting terrorist activities, Georgia’s Public Prosecutor’s Office said.

The defendants, one foreign national and one Georgian citizen, were found to have joined ISIS, sworn allegiance to its leader and expressed their willingness to follow instructions related to terrorist activities, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media. 

Investigators also seized items bearing symbols associated with the organisation, according to the prosecution.

The men were convicted under Article 328 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers joining a terrorist organisation of a foreign state and assisting its terrorist activities.

The court accepted the prosecution’s evidence and sentenced both defendants to 11 years in prison.
