Georgian FM: Euronest cannot dictate to Tbilisi which direction to take

02 November 2025 13:49

Georgia's Foreign Minister has harshly criticised the Euronest platform for their approach towards Tbilisi, urging that it cannot dictate which direction the country should take in its development.

FM Maka Bochorishvili expressed this statement following the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly's latest session that took place in Yerevan over the last week, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

“This is not some kind of union of classroom teachers to teach neighboring countries how to conduct domestic politics, what the Georgian people need, in this case. We have an elected government, this is a democratic country. The Euronest delegation cannot indicate to the Georgian people in which direction to take the development of their own country,” the minister emphasized.

According to her, the platform has lost its relevance and no longer serves Georgia’s interests.

Her harsh remarks came in response to the Euronest PA sessions' resolutions adopted in conclusion to their gathering in Yerevan, which, among other things, called Georgia’s 2024 parliamentary elections “rigged” and labelled the Georgian Dream government “self-proclaimed.”

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, established as a platform for dialogue between the European Parliament and the countries of the Eastern Partnership program (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine), was initially conceived as a mechanism for fostering closeness and mutual trust. Over time, however, this idea has been replaced by political pressure, declarative moralizing, and biased resolutions that stray far from the principles of equality and mutual respect.

Both Azerbaijan and Georgia had refused to send their parliamentary delegations to the Euronest gathering in Yerevan, which concluded on October 30.

The Head of Azerbaijan's delegation to the EU institution, MP Tahir Mirkishili has pointed out, that the decision not to participate in the Yerevan meeting was not linked to the fact that it was being hosted in Armenia, but was due to the string of resolutions adopted by the European Parliament that directly contradict Azerbaijan's territorial sovereignty, including those that distorted facts relating to the era of military conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
